While at Om, back in the day, I took a restorative training with Judith Lasater. She gave us an assignment to look at our schedule and clear three things off of it. Perring down and making space. It’s been something I’ve come back to again and again in my life as a New Yorker.
Ever since my accident, I have more appreciation for my time as we’ve been in a state of emergency at home the last few months trying to get our feet back under us. Before I was even feeling ok again, I had to spring back into action. It’s only now that things are settling a bit. That feels good.
As the holiday season narrows in on us along with all of its bells and whistles, I’m leaning into this practice. How can I do less and leave windows of time and space. I like to take it further and create large gaps, if I can, of unscheduled time. It feels really good on my brain and nervous system.
A big key to making time, I’ve discovered, is filling my time with things and people I love and getting rid of things I don’t want to do. Of course life is filled with those and sometimes you have to do them. Then how can I do them more efficiently to get back to the things and people I love.
With this in mind, I have a pretty cool announcement to make (because I love you and want more of you in my life). I feel pretty giddy about it, to be honest. This January The Jam is going Unplugged. We’re going rogue, people. This means that I am renting a studio at the Bhakti Center on 1st and 1st on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:30pm starting the first week of the new year. No politics, no bullshit. Just us chickens. Suggested donation will be 20 bucks. If you’re broke I won’t turn you away. Pay what you can and come play.
I’ve worked at so many studios over the years and you, my people, are scattered all over the city. I keep hearing some of you say you miss me. Well, I miss you. So I’m hoping to become your yoga home on Wednesday nights. Get ready for chanting, meditation, asana, pranayama- the works. Warning: chanting may bliss you out and melt years off your lives. Many of you have also mentioned in conversation that you are feeling uninspired or flat in regards to your practice. I’m hoping this will turn you on. You heard me. What do you think?
The Bhakti center has a yoga schedule, but I won’t be on their website. We will be off the grid. So check here for any changes. The rest of my schedule remains the same.
I’ll leave you with this:
- Early bird for Salvador Bahia, Brazil with Derek Cook and I is due Dec 15. So is the scholarship. Colombia is sold out. Can’t wait to travel with those that are coming!
- Armbalances Unplugged at Prema Yoga in Carroll Gardens is this Saturday from 2-4. Expect the unexpected. Those of you who like it rare and weird, this one’s for you!
- The last maha jam of the year is this Sunday at Pure East at 12:30. Let me know if you want to be my guest. I love seeing your faces.
- Scholarship T shirts make a great holiday gift. If you are in the city, tell me which one you want and I will bring them to you, or you can always order them on my website.
Happy Holy-Daze everyone!
