Happy Pride Week 2020

So much is happening every day. Way to go ACLU and the Supreme Court coming down on the right side of history in the Landmark decision that people can’t be discriminated against based on being trans or LGBTQAI. For those of you who have been asking, it appears that this affects Trump’s attempt to rollback our healthcare rights in a positive way. I believe from what I have been told this makes it impossible for him to do so. A double win there. And then the amazing DACA decision. Even though there is more ahead there, it feels so good to be getting even a little good news. But don’t loose momentum. New York VOTES this week. All hands on deck.

For Pride, I recommend you watch Disclosure on Netflix. It is a smart, well rounded view of translives in the US and also goes into interesting historic depth of the inextricable ties between transness and blackness in America. I could not recommend it more. My mind was blown! It is completely informative and appropriate to the times. Do yourself and me the favor.

I am thrilled to announce that we raised $335 dollars on the Juneteenth practice for the Okra Project. Some of you donated post the fact. Thanks to everyone who practiced and donated. You still have time if you want to add some dollars to the mix, just venmo me and let me know they are for that. I will be sending the money on Monday. Bowie and I are matching your donations as our way of celebrating Pride this year and also as a small way to continue to contribute to BLM. We figure since we won’t be spending it on leather and pride paraphernalia this year, there’s no better way to spend it. If you haven’t checked out the Okra Project, here is a tiny snippet about them: The Okra Project is a collective that seeks to address the global crisis faced by Black Trans people by bringing home cooked, healthy, and culturally specific meals and resources to Black Trans People wherever we can reach them.

This coming week, there is a Statewide Day Of Action in NYC against Evictions due to Coronavirus, which we know have affected POC communities to a much greater extent. If you are around, there are protests happening on Monday Housing Justice For All and Metropolitan Council have information on the protests on FB.

I feel a continued push to reorganize and reprioritize to ensure that we all have a place at the table. I will always fight for you at every step of the way. And Bowie and I will lean in and back you up with our full weight. I have always believed that there is nothing more amazing, inspiring and dynamic than people living fully in their power, potential and authenticity.

Alright team! Remember to take breaks to take care of yourself. It’s a marathon. Stay active, stay engaged.

Big love,

From Booboo and Me
